Ferm Living began with a simple search for wallpaper. In 2005, founder Trine Andersen had recently moved into a new home in Copenhagen and struggled to find a design that felt right. Rather than settle, she created her own. What started as a single wallpaper collection soon became the foundation of a design brand that has grown into one of Denmark’s most recognizable names in contemporary interiors. The company's name is inspired by Andersen's grandmother's phrase, ferm på fingrene, a Danish expression used to describe someone skilled with their hands.
From the beginning, Ferm Living has offered a softer interpretation of Scandinavian design. While rooted in Nordic simplicity, its collections embrace warmth, texture and personality. Rounded forms, tactile surfaces and earthy color palettes bring a sense of comfort and ease to the home. Furniture, lighting, textiles and accessories are designed to be both functional and expressive, drawing inspiration from nature, architecture and traditional craftsmanship. Working with artisans and manufacturers around the world, the brand combines Danish design principles with techniques and materials shaped by different cultures and traditions.
Responsibility is woven into this approach. Many products carry recognized certifications that support healthier materials and more transparent production. GOTS-certified textiles are made with organic fibers and produced according to strict environmental and social standards, while FSC-certified wood is sourced from responsibly managed forests. Across the collection, recycled materials such as glass, aluminum, paper pulp and PET are increasingly incorporated into new designs.
Beyond individual products, Ferm Living takes a long-term view of sustainability. The company follows a lifecycle approach to design, participates in the UN Global Compact and works with suppliers that are regularly assessed against internationally recognized social responsibility standards. Looking ahead, its 2030 Commitments focus on three areas – Our Planet, Our Society and Our Community. Through thoughtful design, responsible sourcing and enduring partnerships, Ferm Living continues to create pieces that bring beauty, functionality and a greater sense of connection into everyday life.
