Mayan Hands is a fairtrade nonprofit dedicated to empowering female Maya artisans in Guatemala through dignified work, cultural preservation and access to education. With a network of 15 artisan groups across the Guatemalan highlands, the organisation supports over 200 women who practice centuries-old crafts, including backstrap weaving, basketry, crochet, felting and embroidery.
Each piece reflects generations of knowledge, rooted in the legend of Ixchel, the Maya goddess of weaving. From the humble backstrap loom to intricately coiled pine needle baskets, Mayan Hands products carry the stories, symbols and spirit of Maya identity.
Beyond craftsmanship, the organization ensures that artisans receive sustainable, fair pay and the opportunity to lead in their communities. Many partners have worked with Mayan Hands for decades, building a future that honors the past. By choosing Mayan Hands, customers help sustain living traditions and support women who are reshaping their own futures with skill and pride.
